BANDON — The new Southern Coos Health Foundation and Southern Coos Health Center Business Building opened Monday, said CEO Charles Johnston.
The building is adjacent to the new Southern Coos Health Center on the hospital campus and will house the business and foundation offices. An open house will be held in May for the public to tour these new facilities.
At the Southern Coos Health District Board meeting on March 26, the board approved a five-question public opinion survey to be distributed to all Bandon residents. The goal of the survey is to gather information about the public’s use of Southern Coos Hospital and Health Center physicians and services, and to find out the extent to which the health district is meeting public health care needs, Johnston said.
The survey will soon be distributed through City of Bandon utility bills, posted on the SCHC website, and be available at public places such as City Hall, SCHC and the Bandon Chamber of Commerce.
The implementation of SCHC’s electronic health records system is progressing with the help of the district's EHR vendor, Computer Programs Systems, Inc. CPSI was on site for several days in March to work with SCHC providers to discuss and troubleshoot any issues with the system. The CPSI team updated documentation template and order sets, provided workflow options and developed program patches.
In addition, CPSI was recently recognized as the “top ranked inpatient EHR vendor for hospitals under 100 beds” by Black Book Rankings. This is the fifth consecutive year CPSI has been recognized as the top overall EHR vendor for small and rural hospitals under 100 beds and critical access hospitals, according to CPSI.
Also at the March 26 meeting, the SCHD board approved the purchase of a new Automated Medication Management System. SCHC solicited bids through a request for proposal process that resulted in two highly competitive bids from major medical equipment providers Omnicell and CareFusion. The SCHD board approved the purchase of the CareFusion system (called the Pyxis Medstation), based on total price, highly positive references and potential to increase efficiency of SCHC medication dispensing, Johnston said. The Pyxix Medstation is a state-of-the-art system that will offer SCHC doctors and medical staff a streamlined medication dispensing process that will seamlessly integrate with SCHC’s EHR systems.
The Southern Coos Health Foundation raised $80,000 for the purchase of the Pyxis Medstation, said Foundation Director Scott McEachern. A majority of the funds were raised from the Mike and Lindy Keiser Fund of the Oregon Community Foundation. Mike Keiser is the founder and owner of the Bandon Dunes Golf Resort.
“Southern Coos Health Foundation and the Southern Coos Hospital Health Center extends its deepest thanks to Keiser, Bandon Dunes General Manager Hank Hickox and Bandon Dunes staff for this generous gift,” McEachern said.
Foundation report — The foundation's Golf for Health Classic fundraiser is scheduled for July 17-18.
The foundation recently received a gift of $5,000 from the Crane Creek Family Fund of the Oregon Community Foundation. This fund is the family fund of Jim and Jane Ratzlaff.
Financial report — Hospital utilization continues to trend upward, although inpatient days were down last month. Swing bed usage had a large uptick. Net revenue for March was 11.9 percent above budget. Days Cash on Hand was 64.2 days in March.
The Ocean View Care Center fund contains $1,802,283 as the hospital continues to pay the fund back at a rate of $5,500 per month.
